Steven Jackson to void final year of contract, become free agent, stifle fantasy keeper leagues

Rams running back Steven Jackson did not reach the necessary incentives in order to be allowed to void the final year of his contract, which is 2013, but St. Louis decided to let him do it anyway. Jackson is now in the final year of his deal and that puts him in a contract year as he tries to showcase that he's still got something left in the tank after nine seasons and, at this point, 2,197 carries. Jackson has rushed for over 1,000 yards in every season of his career, save for his 2004 rookie season, but right now he'd have to get a hot streak going to make it seem plausible again. He currently has 195 yards on only 3.3 yards per carry, potentially a reason that St. Louis will let him walk if he doesn't want to re-sign on a smaller contract.

Fantasy Take: Well if you are in a keeper or dynasty league, you should start considering that Daryl Richardson is now the back of the future for the Rams. Jackson's wheels are looking rusty but that doesn't mean that his career is necessarily dead at 30. He could have a slight resurgence when he finds a new home in 2013, but it's nothing that you should consider as a number one running back.
