If Jahvid Best has any hope of playing with the Lions this season, then Detroit will have to take him off of the Physically Unable to Perform list by Tuesday or he must be sent to Injured Reserve. It appears that his hope is dwindling.

Will Detroit activate their star running back in time to play this season? We break down the fantasy implications.

Best has not played in a game since suffering a serious concussion in Week 6 of 2011 and the Lions put him on the PUP list to start the year with the hope that he could come back in Week 6, when players can be activated off of that list. However, they did not do it after Week 6 and they still haven’t done it as we approach Week 9. It seems less and less likely that Best will play in 2012, and this has to put some serious doubt on him ever resuming his career.
It’s so unfortunate for Best and the Lions, just as he was really starting to breakout last year and the Lions started 5-0.
Fantasy Take: There’s no reason to own Best at this point. There’s little chance of him playing and even if he does, how careful would Detroit be with the amount of reps he gets? At this point, for a concussion to cost you over a year of playing time, he has to be more concerned with his own personal health and safety.
This should lock in Mikel LeShoure as the top back in Detroit for now.
