Ronnie Brown carried the ball six times for 38 yards while Jackie Battle saw four carries for 20 yards in Thursday night’s matchup against the Chiefs. The two running backs rotated in for Ryan Mathews often, with Brown seeing more playing time in Week 9.
Ronnie Brown, Jackie Battle continue to take away from Ryan Mathews fantasy value
Ronnie Brown and Jackie Battle ate into the backfield workload on Thursday night. We break down the fantasy implications.

Brown also caught five passes for 35 yards, leading the Chargers in receptions on the night.
Fantasy Impact: If you’re in a PPR league, Brown might be a decent flex play if he continues to see plenty of targets from Philips Rivers out of the backfield. Jackie Battle’s value appears to have diminished since early on in 2012, but he is taking away from some of the work Ryan Mathews would normally see.
Mathews appeared to tweak his ankle in the second quarter. While he played the rest of the game, it’s worth keeping an eye on. Brown would become a viable starter with Mathews out.
