Christian Ponder, at least for one week, exceeded his completion-percentage goals on first and second downs. Ponder completed 17 of 20 passes (85 percent) on first or second down in last weekend's overtime win against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to ESPN.com. In the preseason, Ponder said his goal was to complete 75 percent of passes on early downs. Minnesota plays the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder is having a high rate of success throwing the ball on first and second downs. We break down the fantasy implications.

Fantasy Impact: Ponder was 20 of 27 for 270 yards against the Jaguars, but didn’t help fantasy owners too much because he didn’t throw a touchdown. Fantasy owners should be encouraged by this development but will need to see something more explosive before putting him in the lineup on a regular basis.
