NFL, refs come to an agreement, restoring balance to fantasy football

With the regular NFL officials expected to return sooner rather than later, we breakdown the fantasy implications.

After Monday night's fiasco between the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks, the NFL and NFLRA felt pressed to expedite this process. They returned to talks and have been determined to hash something out, coming to terms on a few things already, including the issue of the backup officials.

The hope is that by Week 4’s weekend slate of games, the NFL will have experienced officials in place to restore order to the game we all know and love.

The reports began streaming Wednesday morning and have been ongoing. It seems the commissioner, the NFL owners and NFLRA have been working tirelessly to come to a resolution. For the integrity of the game, the NFL cannot bear one more week with these replacement officials.

Their presence has altered this game in far too many aspects, even in fantasy football.

There are probably hundreds of thousands of people who lost or nearly lost match-ups because Golden Tate had more points than he rightfully should've -- or even Russell Wilson for that matter. With bad calls, whether it's calling something that didn't happen or missing something all together, the replacement officials have jeopardized the legitimacy of fantasy gaming.

The premier scorers like receivers, quarterbacks and running backs have missed out on points they should’ve had, and for some, had more points than they probably earned.

Or for people that reached a round early and invested higher picks in elite defenses like San Francisco, Baltimore or Chicago, there should finally be some sort of payoff. Defenses have been robbed by the replacement officials because of the nature of the game -- and the refs’ general inexperience and bad judgement has shifted the balance in favor of the offense.

The abundance of defensive penalties called by the refs, including unnecessary roughness and pass interference, have affected a number of performances. It’s thrown units out of sync, made players frustrated and not performing.

With the return of the NFL refs, we’ll know that what’s right is right again. There will be no more irregularities or asterisks in professional football, and thus fantasy football. There will finally be balanced restored to this unique game and national phenomenon.
