Bilal Powell, Chris Ivory unable make a fantasy impact in Week 8

Jets running backs were held to just 50 total rushing yards against the Bengals on Sunday. We take a look at the fantasy implications.

Andy Lyons

The New York Jets couldn't get any of their running backs moving against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Bilal Powell led the team in touches with 10 carries for 19 yards and four catches for 20 yards. Chris Ivory rushed for 11 yards on six attempts. Backup quarterback Matt Simms led the team with 35 rushing yards during garbage time in the fourth quarter. Powell was favored over Ivory despite Ivory's 104 yard performance in Week 7.

Fantasy impact: With the Jets trailing the Bengals all afternoon, they ran more passing plays. Powell has been favored during passing downs, which is why Ivory took a backseat. Cincinnati's defense has been stingy with fantasy points allowed to running backs, so it wasn't an appealing match up to begin with. However, Ivory owners likely expected more of a workload after being given 34 attempts against New England just one week prior. The Jets backfield is a bit murky as it stands. It's difficult to trust either back against the Saints in Week 9, but expect a healthy dose of passing plays against one of the league's top offenses.
