Steelers vs. Redskins fantasy football preview: Le’Veon Bell and five to watch

Le’Veon Bell is making his debut for the Steelers tonight, and fantasy owners should be taking notice.

USA TODAY Sports

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell will get his first career NFL start on Monday when the Steelers take on the Redskins for Monday Night Football.

Bell, a rookie out of Michigan State, has drawn positive reviews throughout training camp after shedding some weight and taking control of the running back competition.

He was held out of the team’s first preseason game with a knee injury, and that’s why he tops our list of players to watch.

1. Le’veon Bell, Running Back, Pittsburgh Steelers

Bell looks like a different running back than he did in college after losing weight and gaining a bit of burst. A second-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, Bell is the most talented running back in Pittsburgh's backfield and should emerge as the starter before long. He has the upside to be a solid No. 2 running back in fantasy football, so he's worth watching on Monday night.

2. Antonio Brown, Wide Receiver, Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers opted to extend the contract of Antonio Brown and let Mike Wallace leave in free agency this offseason. The choice appears to be paying dividends early on. The Steelers are happy with Brown's play in training camp and his leadership on and off the field. Will that translate into fantasy success? Well, tonight should be an easy test for Brown, who is matched up against an inexperienced Washington secondary. He should have a chance to put his skills on display, depending on how long he's on the field.

3. Markus Wheaton, Wide Receiver, Pittsburgh Steelers

A deceptively fast wide receiver, Markus Wheaton may struggle to get on the field for the Steelers as a rookie, but he has the ability to make an impact if given some targets. He could replace Wallace in the vertical passing game but will have to compete with Emmanuel Sanders for that role. Both Steelers wideouts are worth watching on Monday Night.

4. Pierre Garcon, Wide Receiver, Washington Redskins

Pierre Garcon was a fantasy machine while healthy last season but he didn't have much luck staying on the field. He seems to be healthy again and could be one of the best value picks in fantasy football this season. He's worth keeping an eye on in the preseason to track how well he's running on his oft-injured foot and how he's clicking with quarterback Kirk Cousins, who may have to play a game or two for Robert Griffin III.

5. Fred Davis, Tight End, Washington Redskins

After blowing out his achilles tendon last season, Fred Davis is working his way back to 100-percent. He’s one a one-year contract to prove that he’s healthy, but the Redskins tight end was producing at a high level in 2012 before his season-ending injury. If he manages to get back to full strength, he could be a sleeper at tight end this season.
