Alshon Jeffery helps fantasy stock with solid game in Oakland

For once, Brandon Marshall wasn’t the one standing out in Chicago’s receiving game. Can Alshon Jeffery find consistency with Jay Cutler? We break down the fantasy implications.

Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports

Jay Cutler attempted 21 passes on Friday night against the Raiders. Eight of those attempts were targeted for Alshon Jeffery. The second-year receiver finished with seven receptions for 77 yards in his third preseason game.

Brandon Marshall didn’t record a single catch on four targets. Cutler kept Jeffery involved and look determined to get him the ball. Entering Friday, Jeffery had just one catch to his name this preseason.

Fantasy impact: Are we ready to declare Jeffery a solid option for your starting lineup? Of course not. But it’s worth noting that he shined in the Bears dress rehearsal. He’s still behind Marshall and Matt Forte in terms of importance in the passing game, though.

Martellus Bennett is also a threat to Jeffery’s targets, although he hasn’t been very active in the offense so far. Jeffery is worth taking a shot at with his current ADP of No. 127. He possesses the upside to enter WR3/4 territory.
