Jets head coach Rex Ryan has not yet named a starting quarterback for New York's preseason opener against Detroit. The competition between the incumbent Mark Sanchez and the rookie Geno Smith has been close, but with many saying that Smith had taken the lead.
Rex Ryan has not yet named Jets starting QB for 1st preseason game, Mark Sanchez has a good Monday practice
The spotlight in New York is bright as usual, but which quarterback will be the first to take snaps in the preseason? Ryan has not yet decided, but Sanchez took a step forward on Monday.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini notes that Rex Ryan was “not happy with today’s practice, both sides of the ball: “The focus wasn’t there.” But he singled out Sanchez as the exception.
Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News also noted that Sanchez “looked sharper than Geno Smith today.” Smith will go back to working with the first string offense on Tuesday.
Fantasy Impact: Whether it is Sanchez or Smith, the Jets offense has a long ways to go before it's worthy of fantasy consideration. Santonio Holmes is injured, Chris Ivory has also been hampered by injuries in training camp, and Sanchez is coming off of his worst season as a pro.
It’s nice to hear that Sanchez has made strides or that Geno has looked good at times, but it won’t mean anything until we see it produce on the field.
