Rams passing game does no favors for fantasy owners in Week 3

The Rams finished with only 197 passing yards in their loss to Dallas on Sunday. We take a look at the fantasy implications.

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The Rams didn't have much working for them during their 31-7 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Sam Bradford completed 29 of 49 passing attempts. His lone touchdown went to wide receiver Austin Pettis, who ended with only 20 yards on two catches.

Wide receiver Chris Givens led the team in targets but was only able to catch two of his eight targets for 54 yards. Running back Isaiah Pead caught all seven of his targets for 43 yards. He struggled finding any room on the ground however. Tight end Jared Cook caught five passes for 44 yards and has yet to see a performance close to his dominant Week 1 performance (7/141/2).

Fantasy impact: Despite what the numbers would indicate, Bradford was serviceable given the circumstances. He was sacked six times and was constantly under pressure behind a struggling offensive line all afternoon. It’s also worth noting that Bradford didn’t turn the ball over despite being being under duress most of the game. Bradford’s couldn’t attack the Cowboys deep, which limited any chance for explosive playmaking from any of the Rams receivers as the Cowboys were able to beat the Rams in the trenches most of the afternoon.

The Rams will be facing the 49ers in Week 4. The Colts recently proved that the 49ers can be beaten on the ground, but the Rams will continue to struggle out of the backfield as Daryl Richardson deals with a foot injury that took him out of the game on Sunday. Aside from Jared Cook and Chris Givens in deeper leagues, Rams receivers can't be trusted until Bradford gets more consistent protection.
