Tight end Rob Gronkowski has been listed as doubtful for the Patriots Week 1 contest with the Buffalo Bills. He’s been limited in practice this week, but he still has work to do before making it back onto the field.
Rob Gronkowski doubtful for Week 1, Zach Sudfeld sees boost in fantasy value
While he appears to be making good progress, Gronk isn’t ready for a regular season game. We break down the fantasy implications.

Gronk endured a rough offseason with multiple surgeries. He appears to be healthy at this point, though. Barring another setback, he looks to be on pace to suit up for game action by Week 2 or 3. Zach Sudfeld is the starter at tight end in his stead.
Fantasy impact: Sudfeld emerged as a sleeper early in training camp, but he started moving up draft boards as the preseason progressed. He has a matchup he can easily exploit in Week 1. Last season Gronk tore apart the Buffalo defense on the road.
The Patriots kept Gronk off the PUP list, so they have to believe he’ll be ready to play sometime in the next few weeks. Sudfeld will still hold value even when he returns.
