Leonard Hankerson was one of Week 5's premier adds on the waiver wire, however, fantasy owners were undoubtedly disappointed at his one catch for 13-yard performance against Washington.
Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 6: Leonard Hankerson
The Falcons will need someone to step up with Julio Jones ailing, and that could come in the form of Hankerson. We break down the fantasy implications.
Washington was without Chris Culliver and DeAngelo Hall, and Julio Jones was far less than 100 percent with a hamstring injury. The script was right for a breakout game, but it just didn't happen. Hankerson left for part of the matchup due to a rib injury, and missed out on would-be touchdowns upon return, specifically one where he had three steps on his defender near the end zone, but was overthrown by Matt Ryan.
Fantasy impact: Circumstances remain similar for Hankerson’s prospects, although fantasy owners are right for having a sour taste in their mouths. Jones remains likely to be on a “pitch count,” leaving Hankerson to be a core contributor in the offense. It’s a role that fantasy owners must take note of, especially with the pool of receivers depleting each week due to injury.
For Thursday night, Hankerson remains a fantastic WR3 with plenty of upside against a New Orleans Saints defense that was recently shredded by a previously stagnant Philadelphia Eagles offense. Fantasy grudges have never done any owner good, and Hankerson remains a bounce-back candidate.
