Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones will play on Thursday night, and will not be limited, per Tracy Wolfson of CBS.
Julio Jones ‘not on a pitch count’ per report, fantasy owners still must approach cautiously
The Falcons’ No. 1 receiver has been dealing with a hamstring injury, but will resume his usual workload in the offense, per a report. We break down the fantasy implications.
Reports surfaced in the days preceding Thursday night's matchup with the New Orleans Saints that Jones would be limited due to a hamstring injury if he were to take the field, but Falcons coach Dan Quinn declared that to be false. Jones will resume his usual post as the X receiver in Kyle Shanahan's offense.
Fantasy impact: Fantasy owners should still be leery of Quinn’s declaration. It’s only in Quinn’s benefit to keep a divisional rival off balance with information about a player that has an ambiguous status, which Jones absolutely has, given the nature of his injury. However, Quinn’s words also can’t be dismissed outright, since even at a limited capacity, Jones has the chops to put a big dent in fantasy scoreboards.
Jones should again be penned into most lineups for Week 6, but expectations should be tempered. While playing through the injury in Week 5, Jones caught five passes for 69 yards and bailed his owners out with a fumble recovery in the end zone, but otherwise put up a mortal effort vs. a banged-up Washington secondary. Jones is a boom-or-bust WR3 this week if he is limited, and a WR1 if he isn’t, but is a fantasy commodity that has to be approached with caution.
