Jacksonville Jaguars running back T.J. Yeldon missed Wednesday and Thursday's practices with a groin injury and could be a game-time decision for Sunday's game against the Texans, according to Hays Carlyon of the Florida Times-Union.
T.J. Yeldon could be game-time decision, becoming fantasy situation to avoid
The Jaguars will face a divisional foe in the Houston Texans on Sunday, but could be without their starting running back. We break down the fantasy implications.
Carlyon's report is based of words from coach Gus Bradley, who lauded Yeldon's ability to pick up the game quickly despite being a rookie. If Yeldon sits out on Sunday, Toby Gerhart and Denard Robinson will likely share the workload in his absence. Per Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union, Yeldon did not participate in Friday's walkthrough.
Via Carlyon:
Gus Bradley said a decision on Yeldon could go all the way until Sunday.
The question for Bradley is how comfortable would he be playing Yeldon with little to no practice time.
“He’s pretty sharp,” Bradley said. “He’s a guy in meetings that can pick things up really fast, he understands it, football comes very easy to him. I think he displayed that. We did a two-minute drill, he caught a pass and went right out of bounds. Sometimes you’re coaching guys that. He just instinctively does it, so it seems to come pretty fast to him.”
Fantasy impact: Yeldon’s replacements don’t inspire any confidence among fantasy owners, especially if they are amid the dreaded timeshare. Gerhart did nothing with his opportunities in 2014, but Robinson did have three games of over 100 total yards. However, Robinson’s workload may not warrant enough touches to put up significant totals in the yardage department, making him a low-floor option.
If Yeldon takes the field without practicing, he should be considered a risky bet to put up any helpful fantasy numbers. Owners can consider the rookie a desperation flex play and should avoid the Jaguars backfield this week if at all possible.
