Detroit Lions running back Theo Riddick sat out Friday's practice, according to ESPN's Michael Rothstein.
Theo Riddick sits out Friday, fantasy status for Sunday a concern
The Lions would have a lot to compensate for in the passing game if Theo Riddick sits out on Sunday. We break down the fantasy implications.
Riddick was listed as limited on Thursday with a groin injury after not being listed on the injury report on Wednesday. It's strong evidence that Riddick suffered the injury during practice, and sitting out the next day doesn't bode well for his Sunday availability. If he sits, Ameer Abdullah will likely take his place in the passing game. Riddick leads all NFL running backs with 30 receptions though five games, including a 10-catch outing in Week 5.
Fantasy impact: Mid-week injuries are never a good sign, and Riddick’s availability on Sunday should be in question. For now, fantasy owners must have a backup plan in place, which may not be the easiest path to take regarding such a shallow position and with the waiver period over.
If Riddick misses time, Abdullah will have legitimate RB2 value, especially in PPR leagues when the Chicago Bears square off against the Lions on Sunday. If Riddick plays, he should be considered a boom-or-bust flex play depending on his limitations. For now, fantasy owners may have to start exploring trades or the dregs of the waiver pool to find a replacement.
