Chicago Bears tight end Martellus Bennett suffered a quad injury on Thursday and was subsequently held out of Friday's practice, according to ESPN's Jeff Dickerson.
Martellus Bennett truly ‘questionable’ for Bears, fantasy owners
The Bears could be without a key part of their offense on Sunday when they face the Lions. We break down the fantasy implications.
Dickerson's report comes from information conveyed by coach John Fox, who declared Bennett questionable for Sunday's contest against the Detroit Lions. Late-week injuries are never positive for a player's availability, so Bennett's status is difficult to assess. Zach Miller and Khari Lee are Bennett's backups, and both would garner significant playing time if Bennett is sidelined.
Fantasy impact: If Bennett can't play, expect an uptick in targets for Eddie Royal as well as Alshon Jeffery, who is likely to make his first start since Week 1. For now, fantasy owners who have Bennett will need to explore contingency options, which is never easy to do so late in the week.
Luckily, the Bears have drawn the early 1 p.m. ET time slot, allowing fantasy owners to wait for active rosters to be announced before deciding what to do. If Bennett plays, it’s not unreasonable to expect limitations. If that’s the case, fantasy owners need to approach the situation with caution.
