San Francisco 49ers running back Carlos Hyde is expected to play Thursday night vs. the Seattle Seahawks, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Carlos Hyde expected to play Thursday, per report, but remains risky for fantasy owners
The 49ers feature back is not 100 percent, but it won’t keep him out of action vs. a formidable NFC West foe. We break down the fantasy implications.
Hyde was limited at practice during the short week due to a foot injury, which also cost him snaps on Sunday vs. the Baltimore Ravens. If Hyde doesn't assume his usual workload, expect Reggie Bush, Jarryd Hayne and Mike Davis to pick up some of the slack against a daunting Seahawks defensive front. Hyde averaged just 2.6 yards per carry against an ailing Ravens front seven in Week 6, and now faces a much more difficult matchup.
Fantasy impact: Since running back is such a shallow position, fantasy owners may not have the luxury of benching Hyde during such a difficult matchup, but backup plans must at least be considered. Hyde will likely garner a workload that makes him worthy of a RB2/flex, but one with a lower floor than usual.
With Anquan Boldin also at less than 100 percent, it’s conceivable that the 49ers will want to lean on the ground game more, which most teams would prefer to do regardless against the Seahawks’ elite secondary. Game script could benefit Hyde, but not to the point where fantasy owners should be excited about plugging him into their lineups this week.
