Speaking Wednesday, New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton expressed his desire to get more touches for running back C.J. Spiller, according to Larry Holder of the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
Sean Payton wants more touches for C.J. Spiller, skepticism remains in fantasy leagues
C.J. Spiller hasn’t had many chances to show off his playmaking ability in 2015. We break down the fantasy implications.
Spiller hasn't contributed much to the Saints offense all season other than his 80-yard game-winning catch-and-run against the Dallas Cowboys, and his opportunities to make a difference have been minimal. Payton has made this proclamation before about getting Spiller touches, but it hasn't happened yet. Holder's report suggests that Spiller could still be struggling with the subtleties of Payton's offense, which is very plausible given that Spiller missed much of training camp due to a knee injury.
Fantasy impact: Spiller's explosiveness in an offense that should suit his playing style makes him an intriguing stash in most fantasy leagues, but fantasy owners are understandably tired of waiting for him to come around. Spiller hasn't come close to scratching the surface of the marks that Darren Sproles and Reggie Bush left while playing in the same offense, but it doesn't mean he won't get there.
For now, fantasy owners have to continue playing the waiting game and wait until Spiller is able to push for more snaps. Until then, he doesn’t belong in fantasy lineups that aren’t desperate ones.
