Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins is "not there yet" in his recovery from a shoulder injury that he suffered in Week 2.
Austin Seferian-Jenkins ‘not there yet’ in recovery, fantasy status in limbo for Week 8
The Buccaneers may be without their starting tight end for at least another week, according to a report. We break down the fantasy implications.
Those words were said by head coach Lovie Smith, via Eric Horchy of Pewter Report, indicating that the second-year tight end could be further away from suiting up in Week 8 than initially thought. Seferian-Jenkins practiced on Wednesday, but his coach's words put a damper on what was seen as positive news earlier in the week. Seferian-Jenkins should be considered extremely questionable for Sunday's matchup with the Atlanta Falcons, as a result.
Fantasy impact: It is in the team’s best interest to keep their hand close their chest if they are playing a divisional rival, which could explain why Smith’s words contradict his tight end’s actions. Fantasy owners should not yet rule out Seferian-Jenkins, but there’s also no hard evidence to suggest he will play.
For now, injury reports should be close at hand for any of his owners, as Seferian-Jenkins could be in for a monster day with Vincent Jackson and Louis Murphy sidelined. If he sits, expect plenty of targets to go toward Mike Evans and Charles Sims.
