Green Bay Packers running back James Starks appeared to be quite limited by a quad injury in Thursday’s practice, according to beat writer Rob Demovsky. Starks rushed for 112 yards and a touchdown on just 10 carries against the San Diego Chargers back in Week 6.
James Starks limited in practice on Thursday, fantasy prospects looking like a gamble
Green Bay Packers running back James Starks appeared quite limited in practice on Thursday. We break down the fantasy implications.
Fantasy impact: It appears that teammate Eddie Lacy got a great opportunity to rest his injured ankle during the team’s bye week, as coach Mike McCarthy said it’s not affecting him anymore. That news makes the Packers’ running game a dicey situation for fantasy owners.
Starks has been a hot waiver wire pickup on two different occasions so far this season, and coming off a 100-yard rushing performance, one would venture to think that he’s bound to continue doing well. At the same time, with Lacy healthy and the tough run defense of the Denver Broncos next on the schedule, it’s impossible to say whether either running back is worth starting this week.
In deeper leagues, fantasy owners can go ahead and take a chance on Starks, but it may result in very little production. Those that go with Lacy are taking the same risk. Perhaps owners who have options at running back outside of Green Bay should just play it safe by starting someone not wearing a green and gold uniform this week.
