Carlos Hyde could be game-time decision for 49ers, fantasy owners need backups in place
The 49ers may opt to sit Carlos Hyde for Week 8. We break down the fantasy implications.
San Francisco 49ers running back Carlos Hyde is expected to be a game-time decision, according to Cam Inman of mercurynews.com.
Hyde missed all three practice sessions in preparation for Week 8's divisional showdown with the St. Louis Rams, but he could still suit up without practicing. Hyde also battled through his foot injury against the Seattle Seahawks on a week of short rest in Week 7, but was mostly ineffective against a stout front seven.
Fantasy impact: It’s unfortunate that Hyde isn’t on track to play despite having 10 days of rest between games, but there’s still a hope that he can suit up. If he does, it’s difficult to envision him being effective at less than 100 percent and amid a sputtering offense. The Rams defense would be a formidable opponent to any team’s running game, which furthermore makes Hyde a dicey option for Week 8.
The volume should be there for Hyde, which puts him in the low-end RB2 conversation, but fantasy owners will likely have to cross their fingers for a goal-line touchdown if they want cash in on fantasy points with Hyde on Sunday. In the meantime, fantasy owners must approach this situation with caution and pick up Mike James on waivers just in case.
