Indianapolis Colts running back Frank Gore was bottled up once again on Sunday, carrying the ball 17 times for 53 yards in the team's 16-13 overtime win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 5: Frank Gore
Frank Gore had little room to run on Sunday vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars. Are better weeks in store? We break down the fantasy implications.
And for the second time in three weeks, Gore fumbled at the goal line and robbed his team of six points. With Andrew Luck out of action, the Jaguars wanted to force Matt Hasselbeck to beat them, and effectively shut down Gore in the process. Even with Luck in action, the Colts and Gore alike have struggled to get the running game going in games that haven't been against the Tennessee Titans. If an overtime run of 22 yards was taken away, Gore would have averaged 1.9 yards per carry.
Fantasy impact: It’s increasingly apparent that Gore is only going to go as far as the Colts offense does as a whole this season. What that means is though the offense won’t go solely through him, he could still benefit from goal-line carries amid an offense that has yet to hit its full stride.
Fantasy owners are undoubtedly upset that the Colts and their 32-year old back haven't cashed in much, but it should be mentioned that Gore is two horrid fumbles away from having as many touchdowns as games played this season. With little competition for snaps, Gore remains on the RB2 radar in standard leagues, and that remains the case for Week 5 vs. the Houston Texans.
