There isn't much precedent for benching a running back after scoring a touchdown, but that's essentially what the Dallas Cowboys did in Week 4 after Joseph Randle nearly lost the football while reaching over the goal line.
Joseph Randle still the Cowboys starter, remains a fine fantasy flex
Despite being in Jason Garrett’s doghouse in Week 4, Joseph Randle remains the Cowboys starting running back. We break down the fantasy implications.
Despite that, head coach Jason Garrett said Randle remains the team's starter, according to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. Though Randle has the "starter" designation, the Cowboys backfield remains a committee approach. Randle could be in line with a greater workload going forward, however, with Lance Dunbar being out for the season with a torn ACL.
Fantasy impact: Randle has eight second half carries over the last two games, and is losing out on an opportunity he is in prime position to seize. With a formidable matchup against the New England Patriots looming in Week 5, Randle is facing a game script that isn't likely in his favor.
Randle remains on the RB2/flex radar for Week 5, but fantasy owners may have to explore other options if the Cowboys' lead back continues to not give the coaching staff what it wants. Darren McFadden and Christine Michael would be in line for more carries if Randle squanders his chances.
