Per a report, Washington will deactivate Jordan Reed on Sunday. We break down the fantasy implications.
Reed suffered a concussion late in Week 4's victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, and is also dealing with knee and ankle ailments. Reed did not take the practice field at any point during the week, and though the team hasn't announced it, he will miss his first game of the season. Derek Carrier will get the start in his place.
Fantasy impact: It had never looked promising for Reed to bounce back in Week 5 after suffering multiple injuries, and fantasy owners had all week to get a contingency plan. The silver lining to that is given Reed’s injury history, that backup option was likely already accounted for among Reed’s fantasy owners.
Reed has now endured five diagnosed concussions since the beginning of his college career, and it’s worth mentioning that a concussion in 2013 kept him sidelined for the season’s remaining six games. It factors in that Washington was far out of playoff contention when they held him out, but even with them in the hunt for the NFC East, it can’t be assumed that they won’t take it easy with Reed. When he returns, he will be back on the TE1 radar.
