Atlanta Falcons running back Tevin Coleman is expected to play on Sunday vs. Washington, according to ESPN's Vaughn McClure.
Tevin Coleman expected to play Sunday, Devonta Freeman still the RB for fantasy owners to own
The Falcons will get their rookie runner back on the field Sunday. We break down the fantasy implications.
Head coach Dan Quinn told McClure this on Friday, and the rookie running back appears set to make his return to the huddle after exiting Week 2's victory with a rib injury. However, in his absence, Devonta Freeman has made the most of his chances, scoring three touchdowns in each of his two games as the Falcons starting running back. Coleman projects to complement Freeman instead of resuming the starting role he had at the beginning of the season.
Fantasy impact: It is possible Freeman will regress and the Falcons go back to having a timeshare in the backfield, but there’s no reason to anticipate that so soon when Coleman is still managing pain in the wake of broken ribs. In the short-term, Freeman remains a RB1, and Coleman can be considered a change-of-pace back.
If Freeman gets injured, Coleman re-enters the RB2 conversation amid a potent offense, and as a talented running back with measurables to back up the excitement in the fantasy community. But for Week 5, Coleman would be best relegated to benches across leagues of all formats.
