Stevie Johnson sits out Friday’s practice, unlikely to play Sunday for fantasy owners
The Bolts will need someone to step up in place of Stevie Johnson on Sunday. We break down the fantasy implications.
San Diego Chargers wide receiver Stevie Johnson sat out Friday's practice with a hamstring injury.
Johnson tweaked his hamstring in Week 4's contest with the Cleveland Browns and was subsequently held out of practice the entire week. It is highly unlikely that a player with a typical multi-week injury that doesn't see the practice field would suit up, so Johnson can be considered highly unlikely to play Sunday vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Fantasy impact: The Chargers will need someone to pick up the slack in the slot without Johnson, but reinforcements are on the way. Antonio Gates is slated to return from a four-game drug suspension and should occupy plenty of time along the seam for Philip Rivers. Malcom Floyd, Danny Woodhead and Keenan Allen can also be expected to soak up plenty of targets in the passing game while Johnson is sidelined.
Hamstring injuries can linger, and with Gates’ impending return, it’s fair to wonder how viable Johnson’s fantasy prospects will be for the remainder of the season. Fantasy owners should be happy they got a strong contribution from him out of the gate, but Johnson’s prospects look dim going forward.
