San Diego Chargers running back Melvin Gordon is listed as probable on the team's injury report for Sunday's matchup with the Baltimore Ravens.
Melvin Gordon injury update: Chargers RB expected to play, but presents fantasy risk
The status of the Chargers’ rookie running back isn’t a concern for Week 8. We break down the fantasy implications.
Chargers coaches have been hesitant to give Gordon the keys to the backfield in recent weeks due to fumbling issues, an ankle injury and the stellar play of Danny Woodhead. After playing in just 15 snaps during Week 7's loss to the Oakland Raiders, Gordon returned to practice at full capacity in each of the Chargers' three sessions. He can be considered likely to suit up once again with an additional week of recovery added to his injury.
Fantasy impact: Though Gordon can tentatively be expected to play, what’s unknown is how much he will get the ball. No fantasy owners should feel great about his chances coming off of a week where he was third in the pecking order in terms of backfield snaps and received just seven carries. Much of that has to do with the Chargers trailing 30-6 at halftime, but the light workload compounded with an ankle injury is still reason for concern.
The game script should skew more toward a balanced attack against the Ravens, but Gordon hasn’t proven himself to be anything other than a desperate flex play for Week 8.
