Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Julius Thomas attributes his early struggles to timing, according to John Oehser of jaguars.com.
Julius Thomas’ struggles are due to timing, per report, fantasy upside remains
The Jaguars’ new tight end hasn’t gotten off to a fast start, but better times could be ahead. We break down the fantasy implications.
Thomas missed the end of preseason and the first four weeks of the season due to a hand injury, so it isn't out of the realm of possibility that timing issues exist with Thomas and his new quarterback Blake Bortles.
Via Jaguars.com:
“I’m very confident we’ll start connecting,” Thomas said. “The looks are there. The opportunities are there. As we (he and quarterback Blake Bortles ) get a better feel for each other and our timing, it’s going to come along.”
Fantasy impact: Thomas has flashed since wearing his new colors, torching the Houston Texans for 78 yards and a touchdown, but has caught just 4 of 13 targets since. Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson continue to thrive in the receiving game, largely leaving Thomas as an afterthought in an emerging offense.
As a result, Thomas can't be counted on as anything other than a TE2 until he shows that he and Bortles have turned a corner. Against a feeble Ravens defense, Thomas could see extra looks if Hurns sits due to a foot sprain, and would make for a decent plug-and-play option for fantasy owners with Antonio Gates on a bye.
