Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson was held out of practice on Friday, according to Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com.
Calvin Johnson sits out Friday’s practice, fantasy status unclear for Sunday
Calvin Johnson continues to deal with an ankle injury. We break down the fantasy implications.
Johnson sat out Wednesday as well, but returned Thursday at a limited capacity as he continues to recover from a lingering ankle injury. Though Johnson has said it is not as severe as the one in 2014 which caused him to miss time, the fact that he was held out of practice on Friday doesn’t bode well for his status on Sunday. Twentyman added that Johnson said earlier in the week that he expects to play Sunday.
Fantasy impact: Johnson isn’t a player who necessarily needs to practice in order to suit up, but being held out of practice so late in the week can never be taken as a good sign. Being able to take the field in some capacity on Thursday enhances his chances of playing, but fantasy owners are likely going to have to wait until active rosters are announced 90 minutes prior to game time before setting their lineups.
If Johnson suits up, he remains a low-end WR1 in a game that will likely have the 1-7 Lions playing plenty of catch-up against Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.
