The Denver Broncos have not gotten any production from their tight ends in the wake of Julius Thomas' departure, which resulted in them trading for Vernon Davis. However, the incumbent starter Owen Daniels finally gave the Broncos the type of production they had been lacking from the tight end position on Sunday.
Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 10: Owen Daniels
The Broncos finally got some production out of their tight end position in Vernon Davis’ first game with the team. However, that production instead came from Owen Daniels. We break down the fantasy implications.
Though the Broncos were ultimately handed their first loss of the season, Daniels thrived, catching 6-of-9 targets for 102 yards and a touchdown. In that one game alone, Daniels accounted for nearly half of his season’s yardage total, as Davis played just nine snaps after being on the roster for less than a week.
Fantasy impact: Because Davis is still so new to the team, Daniels is likely still the No. 1 tight end in Denver, but his days are numbered. The Broncos would not have traded for Davis mid-season if they did not plan on having him play a significant role in their offense, and Daniels’ performance in Week 9 won’t have done anything to change that. How long it will be before Davis supplants Daniels is still unknown, but that day remains imminent.
Daniels can be considered a middling TE2 against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, and his role can be expected to shrink each passing week. Davis is not yet ready to be started in leagues of any format.
