San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates sat out practice on Thursday to deal with a knee injury, according to beat writer Eric Williams. Gates’ teammate Ladarius Green also missed practice because of an ankle injury, according to a separate report by Michael Gehlken. It’s uncertain whether either tight end will play against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
Antonio Gates, Ladarius Green sit out practice Thursday, fantasy situation unknown
San Diego Chargers tight ends Antonio Gates and Ladarius Green both sat out practice on Thursday. We break down the fantasy implications.
Fantasy impact: While Gates caught six passes for 69 yards in Week 9 against the Chicago Bears, Green hasn’t played since suffering his injury back on Nov. 1. It appears that of the two, Gates is more likely to suit up this week.
Considering the team is also dealing with injuries to Malcom Floyd and Keenan Allen, who will sit out the season with a lacerated kidney, the Chargers can ill afford to have both Gates and Green on the sidelines. If both players can’t go in Week 11, the next tight end on the depth chart would be David Johnson. Johnson has 23 catches for 220 yards and one touchdown in 75 career games dating back to 2009.
Fantasy owners better hope that either Gates or Green are ready to play on Sunday. If not it would be best to look elsewhere to fill the tight end position for now.
