Washington running back Matt Jones first garnered attention with a punishing performance against a vaunted Rams defense in Week 2, but was mostly silent afterward. But the rookie from Florida drew everyone's eyes once again in Week 10 after dismantling a hapless New Orleans Saints defense.
Fantasy football start/sit advice, Week 11: Matt Jones
Washington got another huge game from its bruising rookie on Sunday. Is there another in the cards for Week 11? We break down the fantasy implications.
Jones found mild success on the ground, totaling 56 yards on 11 carries, but it was his work in the receiving game that rewarded savvy fantasy owners who gave him flex consideration. Jones caught three passes for 131 yards, highlighted by an impressive 78-yard touchdown reception on a screen pass where he followed blocks and weaved in and out of traffic.
Fantasy impact: Unfortunately, there are a number of factors to suggest Jones won't approach this level of production for a second straight week, and it starts with the formidable defense of the Carolina Panthers. Though they have been middling in the running game, Jones may not have the same success in the receiving game he did a week ago as the Panthers are averaging the fewest yards per passing attempt in the NFL.
With Alfred Morris still a part of the backfield formula, it’s fair to be concerned about Jones’ usage since he dealt with fumbling issues throughout the year and the event where he is “hot-handed” by a different running back always presents itself. As a result, Jones has the talent to capitalize amid difficult matchups, but fantasy owners who start him on Sunday should know he could “bust” just as easily as he could “boom.”
