New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz has spent the entire season recovering from a calf injury, but says he could be ready to return following the team’s bye week, according to beat writer Ralph Vacchiano. Cruz hasn’t played an NFL regular season game since injuring his knee in Week 6 of last year.
Victor Cruz may return before fantasy playoffs, possible value remains
New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz is hopeful he can return after the team’s bye week. We break down the fantasy implications.

Fantasy impact: Prior to Odell Beckham Jr.‘s emergence as a top-flight NFL receiver, there was no question that the top dog in the Giants’ receiving corps was Victor Cruz. What a difference a year makes. Although Cruz sounds optimistic at the moment, it seemed he was just as hopeful prior to the start of the season, and yet fantasy owners still await his return.
It’s definitely worth picking him up in deeper leagues just to stash him, especially if your fantasy team is in the enviable position of having a playoff spot locked up already. Other than that it might be hard to take a chance on Cruz.
The Giants have their bye in Week 11, meaning that the earliest Cruz would return would be Week 12. If your fantasy playoffs don’t include the final week of the NFL’s regular season, it means Cruz likely doesn’t have enough time to get up to speed in order to be an impact player in the fantasy postseason. Those who really need to gamble on a receiver can go ahead and pick up the veteran, otherwise it might be best to look elsewhere.
