Arizona Cardinals running back Andre Ellington did not practice on Thursday because of a nagging toe injury, according to beat writer Kent Somers. Ellington is already going to sit out the team’s Week 13 game against the St. Louis Rams, and it looks like he’s highly questionable for Week 14 as well.
Andre Ellington misses practice on Thursday, likely on fantasy sidelines for a while
Arizona Cardinals running back Andre Ellington is struggling to overcome a toe injury. We break down the fantasy implications.
Fantasy impact: After showing flashes of his capability to perform as a true feature running back last season, Ellington’s fantasy stock has certainly been hit with a downgrade in 2015. He first got hurt in the opening game of the season, and the fact he was absent for the next three weeks that followed opened the door for teammates Chris Johnson and David Johnson to take over.
Both the veteran Johnson and rookie Johnson did just that, but now that Chris’ regular season is over thanks to a broken leg, only the younger David Johnson remains. David has just 139 rushing yards on 35 carries this season to go with four touchdowns. He has however demonstrated his potential in the passing game, collecting 241 receiving yards on 19 catches, with an additional three touchdowns.
Fantasy owners in deeper leagues who need to win in order to make the playoffs going into Week 14, and even those looking to shore up their running game in order to make a championship run, should take a serious look at David Johnson. For now at least, it appears Andre Ellington isn’t going to be an option.
