Carolina Panthers wide receiver and 2015 second-round draft pick Devin Funchess will not play in the team’s second preseason game on Saturday against the Miami Dolphins due to a hamstring injury, according to Joe Person of The Charlotte Observer. Funchess caught two passes for 53 yards in the opening game of the exhibition schedule.
Devin Funchess out with hamstring ailment, fantasy sideline imminent
Panthers’ wide receiver Devin Funchess won’t play in the team’s second preseason game. We break down the fantasy implications.

Fantasy Impact: With sophomore supernova Kelvin Benjamin tearing his ACL in Tuesday’s practice and ruled out for the season, Funchess definitely moves up on the team’s depth chart heading into his rookie season.
Coach Ron Rivera had made it clear that the wide receiver spots on the team were wide open apart from Benjamin’s, but that was before the injury, which means it’s basically anyone’s game now. At 6’4 and 225 pounds, Funchess’ biggest asset is his size, and although he is competing alongside Philly Brown and Ted Ginn, there’s no way Funchess won’t see lots of targets, considering the Panthers traded up in the draft to get him.
