Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Julius Thomas has officially been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers, per the team's injury report.
Julius Thomas injury update: Jaguars TE expected to miss 3 weeks, remains a fantasy league stash for Week 1
The made a splash by acquiring in free agency, but will have to wait to see what he can do for them. We break down the fantasy implications.
Thomas is expected to miss the first three weeks of the season after breaking his hand during the Jaguars first preseason game and subsequently having surgery on a finger tendon. Veterans Marcedes Lewis and Clay Harbor are expected to replace Thomas in the huddle until he is fully recovered.
Fantasy Spin: Thomas already had questions regarding his fantasy value after going from arguably the NFL’s most prolific offense to an unproven one. With being sidelined the first three games added into the equation, fantasy owners are even more bearish on a player who logged a dozen touchdowns in both 2013 and 2014.
Because of his athletic upside and his pass productivity, Thomas is worth taking a chance on as a TE2 in leagues of all formats, but fantasy owners will have no choice but to exercise patience. Expect Allen Robinson to get an uptick in targets and red-zone looks during Thomas’ absence.
