San Diego Chargers running back Danny Woodhead got the bulk of the red zone duties ahead of rookie running back Melvin Gordon in Week 1, but that won't always be the case, per Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Woodhead, Gordon, to split red zone duties week to week per report, fantasy owners collectively groan
Danny Woodhead found pay dirt in Week 1 as Melvin Gordon was held scoreless, but that could change each week. We break down the fantasy implications.

Speaking to both head coach Mike McCoy and offensive coordinator Frank Reich, each coach echoed the sentiment that Gordon and Woodhead will split duties in the red zone based on the weekly matchup.
“I would guess so,” offensive coordinator Frank Reich said. “It hasn’t intentionally happened like that. We’d like to see (Gordon) get more than his share.”
“It’ll change from week to week,” coach Mike McCoy said. “Each player’s role will change in the red area.”
Fantasy Spin: This certainly puts a damper on the spirits of Woodhead’s owners. It had appeared for a brief moment that Woodhead would be the back to own in San Diego after so much hype for Gordon in the preseason. Now, it appears that fantasy owners could be looking at the dreaded timeshare in the Chargers backfield.
Woodhead will always deserve flex consideration in PPR leagues, and both he and Gordon can be considered strong flex candidates for standard formats. But as far as determining who gets the bulk of the goal-line duties, fantasy owners may just have to flip a coin.
