Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith started Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos in a nice rhythm, catching two early passes for 13 yards.
Fantasy start/sit advice, Week 2: Steve Smith
The Ravens’ veteran receiver found little room to run in Week 1, but a rebound could be in the cards. We break down the fantasy implications.
The issue is, Smith couldn't add any more catches or yardage to that total despite having seven targets. An elite Broncos defense blanketed Smith all afternoon and didn't allow much separation. Making matters worse, Smith had a ball go right through his hands near the goal line with seconds remaining, and it instead wound up in the hands of safety Darian Stewart to seal the game.
Fantasy Spin: Fortunately, Smith won't likely have as much harassment in Week 2 against an Oakland Raiders secondary that let Cincinnati Bengals pass catchers roam free in Week 1. Smith still remains the Ravens' top receiver, and as along as he remains targeted as such, more efficiency can be expected this time around.
Smith can be considered a mid-level WR2 for Sunday’s bout with the Raiders -- he will remain a huge factor in getting the Ravens’ passing game on track. Fantasy owners can start him this week with much more confidence than in the season opener.
