The Washington offensive line was supposed to be a disaster in 2015, if any conclusions could be made from Robert Griffin III's last preseason appearance. However, that's been anything but the case with the emergence of Matt Jones as proof.
Start/sit advice, Week 3: Matt Jones
Washington’s rookie running back burst on the scene in Week 2’s drubbing of the St. Louis Rams. What’s in store for Week 3? We break down the fantasy implications.
It took just two weeks for the Washington rookie to turn some heads, after gashing a St. Louis Rams defense that befuddled Marshawn Lynch in Week 1. Jones rushed for 123 yards on 19 carries, adding three catches for 23 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He got one more carry than starter Alfred Morris' 18, and played just three fewer snaps than his counterpart.
Fantasy impact: Jones clearly was the back to own in Washington’s backfield for Week 2, but that may not always be the case week to week. Morris still saw the field more times and there isn’t yet enough evidence to suggest that he won’t going forward.
It’s a fantastic start to Jones’ career, but he doesn’t have value that’s more than a flex option until Morris’ usage is well below the electric rookie’s.
For now, Jones should be owned in fantasy leagues of all formats, but look for his value and workload to increase as the season goes on. Both he and Morris can be considered strong flex options for Week 3.
