Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten practiced for the team on Thursday, according to DallasCowboys.com's Jason Helman.
Jason Witten practices despite multiple injuries, likely to play for fantasy owners
The Cowboys have had multiple key players sit out this season due to injury, but Jason Witten won’t be one of them for Week 3. We break down the fantasy implications.
Witten also practiced Wednesday, which is bizarre given that the 33-year-old has a sprained knee and sprains on both of his ankles. For most veterans, Wednesday and Thursday would be used as routine days of rest and maintenance, but that isn’t the case for a tight end that hasn’t missed a game since 2006.
Fantasy impact: This has been the norm for Witten over the years: he gets banged up but doesn't miss games despite that. There's no reason to assume this won't be the case once again when the Cowboys take the field on Sunday vs. the Atlanta Falcons.
The Cowboys are in a mindset where they will need all hands on deck offensively due to injuries that have Dez Bryant and Tony Romo sidelined. Witten led the Cowboys in targets in Week 2, and could see that trend continue for as long as Bryant is out of action. As a result, Witten is squarely in the TE1 conversation, although it can be expected for the Cowboys offense to sputter against a revitalized Falcons defense coached by Dan Quinn.
