Fantasy football rankings 2015: One more Top 150 before Week 1

Instead of tweaking last week’s set of rankings, it was smarter to tear the whole thing down and start over. Here is a new fantasy football ranking of the Top 150 overall players.

Thomas J. Russo-USA TODAY Sports

As you read this, it is less than a week until the 2015 NFL season begins (since I’m writing this on Thursday night, less than a week before the season starts already, I know that’s true). That means the weekend to come will likely be the last big draft time for fantasy football leagues.

With that in mind, I'm checking in with my final top 150 updated fantasy rankings before the football season begins in earnest. Those of you who have checked in on my previous rankings will notice some definite differences between this and past rankings.

Of course, part of that is recent news. Tom Brady was suspended a week ago, and he isn’t now. Martavis Bryant wasn’t suspended a week ago, and he is now. (I wrote that sentence, then realized that Bryant’s suspension actually came down before my last update, but I love the parallelism up there, and whatever, you get the point.)

On top of that, though, is a personal preference to not spend each rankings update merely moving names up and down. Occasionally, that’s what you have to do, because of timing or whatever else. But every couple weeks, even before I was writing about fantasy, I like to step back and start my rankings from scratch. I delete the rankings I had before (or move to a new spreadsheet) and start anew.

Obviously, I made my previous rankings, so it’s not like I’m going in blind. But this keeps me from being quasi-locked into a structure. I’ve been participating in drafts (both real and mock) for a while now, and my strategy has changes as I’ve seen how things shake out. For example, the more I consider it, the more I think the key after the top two quarterbacks or top four tight ends is to just wait so dang long. There is only a tiny difference, to me, between Jason Witten and Owen Daniels, or between Russell Wilson and Ben Roethlisberger, that being the first one to take someone from those middling tiers is a waste of a pick.

A full start-over on the rankings is time-consuming, but (to me) useful, and explains why some of my rankings might have changed significantly from a week ago.

Just a few words on thought process. On to the rankings.
