Fantasy football waiver wire: 5 wide receivers to target for Week 8

Fantasy owners will have to reshuffle their lineups with six teams on bye this week.

Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

We’re reaching moment-of-truth time in the fantasy football season. The real meat of the bye weeks is here, and with six teams sitting out Week 8, the waiver wire is a bigger priority than ever.

This week’s bye teams are the Baltimore Ravens, New York Giants, Los Angeles Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers, and Miami Dolphins. That leaves fantasy owners without blue-chip studs at receiver like Antonio Brown, Odell Beckham Jr., and Jarvis Landry. With so many absences to account for, owners will have to dive deep to find replacements.

So let’s take a look at the top waiver wire adds at receiver for Week 8, owned in 50 percent or less of Yahoo! standard leagues.

Corey Coleman, Cleveland Browns (41 percent)

Coleman is getting closer to returning from the broken hand he suffered in practice about a month ago. He’s likely not going to play this week, but fantasy owners in deeper leagues can think about stashing him on their bench. Coleman was playing well before the injury and should give Cleveland’s offense a much-needed spark, especially with Terrelle Pryor battling a hamstring injury.

Jamison Crowder, Washington (37 percent)

Crowder took advantage of Jordan Reed’s multi-game absence, recording 10 catches for 160 yards, and a touchdown in the past two games. With Reed possibly returning this week, there’s concern that Crowder will go back to a minimal role in the offense, but his big-play ability should be enough to keep him on the WR4 map for the near future. Washington gets the Cincinnati Bengals this week.

Quincy Enunwa, New York Jets (33 percent)

Well, the Geno Smith era didn’t last long. Smith tore his ACL on Sunday and Ryan Fitzpatrick is back under center. Enunwa’s had disappointing production since Eric Decker went down with a shoulder injury, but his 69-yard catch-and-run touchdown last week showed that the talent is still there. He’ll have one of his more friendly matchups with the Cleveland Browns on deck this week.

Davante Adams, Green Bay Packers (19 percent)

Maybe we were just a year early on predicting Adams’ breakout? He burned fantasy owners with a poor 2015 season, but Adams had a huge game last Thursday night, racking up 13 catches for 132 yards and two touchdowns against the Chicago Bears. With the Atlanta Falcons’ poor defense up next, Adams will be a solid streaming option for owners trying to paper over bye-week absences.

Brandon LaFell, Cincinnati Bengals (12 percent)

LaFell had a slow start to the year, but he’s really picked up lately with four touchdown catches in his last three games. Tyler Eifert’s return will likely eat into LaFell’s targets, but he’s clearly separated himself from Tyler Boyd as the Bengals’ No. 2 receiver. LaFell has WR3 upside against a Washington defense that could be without Josh Norman, who suffered a concussion in Week 7.
