Ferrari and Cadillac reach agreement on F1 power units for 2026 season

At the end of November Formula 1 announced that an 11th team would be joining the grid for the 2026 season. F1 announced at that time that an agreement in principle has been reached and that a General Motors-Cadillac team will be entering the sport starting in 2026.

The announcement brought to a close months of debate and discussion over a potential 11th team on the grid.

In the announcement Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA, stated that “General Motors is a huge global brand and powerhouse in the OEM world and is working with impressive partners. I am fully supportive of the efforts made by the FIA, Formula 1, GM, and the team to maintain dialogue and work towards this outcome of an agreement in principle to progress this application to bring a GM/Cadillac branded team on the grid for the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship. All parties, including the FIA, will continue to work together to ensure the process progresses smoothly.”

Now we know a little more about this 11th team.

According to a brief statement from Ferrari, the new team has reached an agreement with the long-standing F1 team on power units starting in the 2026 season. It is believed that the new GM-Cadillac team will begin supplying its own power units in 2028.

“Ferrari today announces a multi-year agreement starting from 2026 with Andretti Formula Racing LLC, regarding the supply of power unit and gearbox to the racing team led by TWG Global and General Motors, subject to Andretti Formula Racing LLC receiving written confirmation from the FIA – F1 that its entry to the 2026 FIA Formula One Championship has been accepted and approved,” read the brief statement from Ferrari.

GM-Cadillac has yet to comment or issue a statement of their own regarding this development, which was widely anticipated when the news broke of the 11th team joining the grid.
