The news is now official.

The Formula 1 grid is growing by one team next year.

On Friday F1 released a brief statement indicating that the prospective 11th team — the General Motors/Cadillac partnership with TWG Motorsports — has been approved for the 2026 season.

“The FIA and Formula 1 can confirm that, following the completion of their respective sporting, technical and commercial assessments, the application by General Motors and TWG Motorsports to bring a Cadillac team to the FIA Formula One World Championship from 2026 has been approved,” read the brief statement.

This announcement is the culmination of a multi-year process that began with a proposed team in partnership between Andretti Global and General Motors. While that bid was ultimately rejected by Formula One Management, the sides continued discussions, ultimately leading to the partnership between General Motors and TWG Motorsports, and the approval of the Cadillac team.

The newest team on the grid will ultimately become a works operation, producing their own power units. The incoming Cadillac F1 team is planning to manufacture those power units at a factory in North Carolina.
