Aston Martin confirms Lance Stroll will return for F1 Canadian Grand Prix

After days of speculation, Aston Martin has confirmed that Lance Stroll will be back in action for his home race, the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix.

Stroll withdrew from the Spanish Grand Prix after qualifying, with the team citing the injuries he sustained ahead of the 2023 F1 season during pre-season training. Ahead of that campaign Stroll suffered fractures and a broken toe in a cycling accident, which led to him undergoing surgery followed by a process of rehabilitation.

Stroll missed pre-season testing as a result of that accident, but returned to the grid for the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix where he delivered an impressive sixth-place finish.

Aston Martin noted that Stroll’s withdrawal at the Spanish Grand Prix came after the driver reported pain in his hand and wrist, and a team doctor concluded that the condition was related to his injury in 2023. “Over the course of the past six weeks Lance has been experiencing pain in his hand and wrist, which his medical consultant believes is in relation to the procedure he underwent in 2023,” read a statement from the team. “As a result his medical team have confirmed that he will not race tomorrow and he will undergo a procedure to rectify these issues before focusing on his recovery.”

However, on Wednesday the team confirmed Stroll would be back in Montreal:

Stroll currently sits 12th in the F1 Drivers’ Championship standings with 14 points, putting him 12 points ahead of teammate Fernando Alonso.
