The BMW Championship gets going on Thursday and we now know who is going to be playing with who when all of the action gets underway.

The PGA Tour announced opening pairings for the Tour’s next playoff event and the headliner is right in the middle of the graphic.

You are not misreading. Golf fans will be treated to a pairing of Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, the two best golfers in the world and winners of three of this season’s majors between them, for at the very least the opening two rounds. Obviously there are a lot of factors between now and then, but we could be looking at two players who could be sharing the course in a month at the Ryder Cup as well.

Part of what is awesome about the FedExCup Playoffs is seeing pairings like this. Fans want to be treated to battles of the very best and getting a Scheffler/McIlroy combo for two guaranteed days is a huge win.

It was low-hanging fruit to say the least, but kudos to whoever made this happen.
