We are inching closer and closer to the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black and soon enough we will know which United States players will square off against which European ones. The biggest question within the two groups lies on the American side and whether or not Captain Keegan Bradley will put himself on the team as a player as well.

Speaking on Wednesday before the BMW Championship, reigning Masters Champion and top European Rory McIlroy noted that he has been approached himself about the idea of being a playing captain. For what it’s worth, he doesn’t think it is possible to pull off.

It is very possible that Rory is speaking his truth and noting that he does not view the possibility of being a playing captain in the Ryder Cup as something that anyone, obviously himself included, can pull off in our current day and age. We should take him at his word.

…but this could also be gamesmanship! The Ryder Cup is an arena void of rules and regulations (generally speaking) and Rory might be trying to get into the head of the Americans here with a bit of a long game play.

The clock is ticking. Keegan Bradley will have to make a decision soon. Will what Rory said play a factor for him at all?

We will see.
