Jim Furyk believes Team USA doesn’t need to reinvent the Ryder Cup wheel

The United States had a poor showing at the Ryder Cup. We all know this.

Bethpage Black will be remembered for how thoroughly the Europeans dominated their American counterparts and in all likelihood more specifically so for the questions that the whole thing generated. The 2027 version of the event at Adare Manor is still way off in the distance, but there are already all sorts of claims about what the American side has to do differently.

Recently here at SB Nation we were able to catch up with someone who knows more than a thing or two about Ryder Cup excellence in Jim Furyk. These days Furyk is getting set to lead the Americans in the Skechers World Champions Cup, but he has been a part of every Ryder Cup since 1997 so he certainly knows what he is talking about.

Furyk was firm in that the United States does not need to “reinvent the wheel” and noted that they have already done so in the past (shout out to the task force). It makes sense from a gamesmanship perspective for him to not divulge what American leadership may or may not be doing, but it is also fair to note that the process that went into this most recent Ryder Cup could certainly use some help.

As noted there is going to be a high level of attention on Team USA ahead of the next Ryder Cup. Jim Furyk and everyone involved have a tall task in front of them with regards to winning in general but obviously doing so on European soil.
