When it comes to life on the PGA Tour, players have to find edges in every way possible.

I am fascinated by this idea. The term “market inefficiency” has a bit of a taboo nature to it in general, but I think it is an important one in the world of sports. If you can find and isolate a way in which you can capitalize against your opponent or the field at large… why wouldn’t you want to do it?

Fortunately for me I had the chance to sit down with one of the brighter minds in the world of professional golf on Friday. Maverick McNealy joined me to talk about a variety of things and I had to get his thoughts on my question.

You can watch our conversation below.

McNealy noted that he has a statistician who is always computing a variety of information in the name of giving him as much processing power as possible to leverage in his game. This makes sense and really speaks to where the state of professional golf, professional sports at large really, is in our current moment.

What makes Maverick so fun and interesting is that beyond his intellect he also has an immense style. When he tees it up at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am this will be fully on display by way of a special bag built by AT&T.

This bag is incredible and perfectly captures the look and feel of Pebble Beach. Hopefully it translates into Maverick’s game and he is able to have a special week out there.
