The WTGL has its first owner.

It was announced on Monday that Arthur Blank, who is the owner of TGL’s Atlanta Drive GC, will head an Atlanta-based WTGL team when the league begins play next winter.

This is a significant step for WTGL as its future teams begin to come into focus. Here is what we know about the league in total.

  • Lexi Thompson, Lydia Ko, Charley Hull, Jeeno Thitikul, and Brooke Henderson will be a part of it
  • So will Lottie Woad and Rose Zhang
  • Play will begin next winter
  • Atlanta is the first team
  • Nelly Korda has reservations

That last point feels pertinent. Last week saw Korda, who went on to win the first event of the LPGA Tour season in the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions after the event was trimmed down to 54 holes due to freezing temperatures in Florida (there is a lot going on!), offer some thoughts on the WTGL. Korda noted that the league should be a mixed/co-ed one with its male counterpart and she feels the ball was dropped in some respect.

Time will tell what WTGL looks like and if Korda is ultimately a part of it. For now we know Atlanta will be.
